Ashley is a vastly experienced goalkeeper who joined the club in June 2011. He was first team captain and made 87 appearances for the club during his two seasons before he retired in May 2013 to take up a coaching role further up the football ladder. The charismatic keeper has over 300 football league appearances to his name, featuring for Brentford, Torquay United, Exeter City and Leyton Orient. He also has a League of Ireland winners medal from his time with Bohemians, as well as representing England at youth level. Other previous clubs include Woking, Hornchurch, Grays Athletic, Crawley Town and Stevenage. Upon retiring Basingstoke Town manager Jason Bristow said ”We will miss everything Bayzo brings to the football club, he is a natural leader and will be very hard to replace, the things people don’t see is the real positivity that he brings to the changing room and his infectious desire to win.
