Player Profile

Jason joined Basingstoke from Reading in 1999 where he was captain of the reserve side. He made his debut in a 3-1 league cup win against Walton & Hersham and went on to make over 350 appearances for the club, a figure which would have been higher but for a knee injury which kept Jase out for all of the 2002/03 season and eventually forced him into early retirement in March 2009 at the age of just 28.The big defender won the Fans Player Of The Season award on three separate occasions (2001/02, 2003/04 and 2005/06) as well as the Away Fans Player Of The Season for the 2007/08 season.Upon his retirement from playing, Jason became manager of the Basingstoke Academy team as well as working with the Senior team as a coach. In July 2010, the club held a testimonial for Bristow with Chelsea and Reading All Star teams facing off at the Camrose, with Jason representing Reading. In February 2012, following the departure of first team manager Frank Gray and his assistant Gerry Murphy, Jason was made caretaker boss with the club twelve points shy of the play-off zone. He turned the side around with ten wins from the final fifteen league games, reached the Conference South play-offs and was given the role on a permanent basis.Mid-table finished were achieved in the following two seasons, along with a Hampshire Cup final victory at Fratton Park against Havant & Waterlooville in May 2014. However, the following season was Jasons best at the helm. Basingstoke finished in 3rd place in the Conference South, having challenged for the league title all season. They were eliminated in the Play Off Semi Finals. He also guided the side to an FA Cup First Round replay against Conference side AFC Telford United. The start of the 2015/16 season saw Basingstoke struggle for form in the league and despite again reaching the FA Cup First Round, where the side lost out by a single goal away to League Two outfit Cambridge United, Jason decided to step down from his role as first team manager in November 2015 despite still having the backing of the chairman.Jason continued his role as Academy Manager and upon the appointment of new First Team Manager Terry Brown in March 2016, Jason combined his role to also work as First Team Coach.
