Neil Barrett, 31, joins Basingstoke one of the more experienced players in the squad. Having played most of his football at a higher level he has decided to join Basingstoke on a one-year deal after his contract with Ebbsfleet finished at the end of the season.Barrett started his career at Chelsea although failed to make an appearance before he joined Portsmouth at the start of 2001 season. In three seasons Barrett made only 26 league appearances before being loaned out to Dundee United in January 2004 for the rest of the season. He did enough to convince the Scottish club to sign him for the following season making 30 league appearances.The following season he moved to Livingston making only 9 league appearances in the 2005-06 season. After a failed trail with Exeter City he joined Woking for half a season making only 7 appearances. At the start of the 2007-08 he joined Ebbsfleet United on a two-year deal in which he made 63 league appearances in the Blue Square National. Following a successful two year stint at the club, in which he won the FA Trophy in 2008, playing against former town player Tim Sills.He played for York City between 2009-2011 where he made 63 league appearances in two years. The following season he joined Havant & Waterlooville on non-contract terms playing only 5 league games for the club. He then orchestrated a move back to Ebbsfleet with former boss Liam Daish where he spent a further two years making 68 league appearances. Following there relegation from the Blue Square Premier he was released and has signed a one year deal with the club. Described by Bristow as a high experienced player, that has spent of his career in the higher leagues. “He is someone we see very valuable to us.
