Robbie Matthews, 31, a versatile players capable of playing in a centre back role and as a Striker. Robbie started his career with his hometown club Salisbury City FC. He spent 5 years at his first spell at the club helping Salisbury to three promotions in three years. In 2008 he was loaned out to Havant & Waterlooville to regain match fitness after struggling to regain fitness after recovering from a knee injury at the start of the season. He returned from Havant to play one more game for Salisbury. In January Crawley showed interest in the striker and due to financial difficulties Salisbury had to reduce there wage bill. Matthews spent the rest of the season at Crawley, hoping to push for a play-off place. He appeared against Salisbury during that loan and was on the losing side that day.At the start of the 2009/2010 season he signed a one-year deal for Kidderminster Harriers of the Blue Square Premier Bet were he made 32 leagues appearances scoring just 6 goals. The following season he moved to Newport County, again of the Blue Square Bet Premier, he signed a two year deal but managed to find the net only 5 times in 25 league games. He finished the season on loan at Forest Green Rovers scoring only 1 goal in 7 appearances.During his second season, 2011/2012, at Newport County he managed only 10 appearances and was again loaned out to Forest Green Rovers and Salibsury City. He made 37 appearances for Salisbury scoring 7 goals and spent just 3 games on loan at Forest Green.Last season he joined Salisbury on a permanent deal signing a one year full time contract. He helped secure Salisburys return to Blue Square Bet Premier scoring only twice in 34 league games, he was mainly deployed as a centre defender.He joins Bristow squad as a senior player with a wealth of experience and will be one of four striking option the manager has available to him. Also will be available as the fourth centre defender if required.
