Chay joined Basingstoke in early 2011 following a goalkeeper crisis at the club through injury. Despite being injured himself during his first appearance (which saw the game abandoned), Chay went on to make ten appearances before the season was out. He remained at the club for the 2011/12 season and has always shown he is perfectly capable of stepping up when required. Chay left mid-way through the 2012-13 season to concentrate on his modelling career.
