Steven was a centre back who signed for Basingstoke in February 2012 having trained with the first team for the two months prior. He remained at the club until the end of the season acting as cover for the injured Ross Adams.Old began his career with St. Johns in the United States before playing for Young Heart Manawatu and Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand, Newcastle Jets in Australia and Kilmarnock in Scotland. He also had a brief loan spell at Cowdenbeath. Old also boasted 17 full international caps for New Zealand.
